My parents would go to hear him at a place on the edge of prairie/Chicago. I don't know exactly when but suspect early 40s. She met Bob on the train in Chicago during the war as he was in uniform. They spotted each other and yelled a white woman and a black man. The resident passengers were looking at them dubiously. Once they started talking shop/music the crowd relaxed. Mom said he was an excellent jazz musician with accomplished foot work that would amaze. The forum album I have is commercial pablum.
