Bill Watrous was on stage with a trio and then walked in Clint Eastwood and Sondra Locke - - Mort told me they were regulars and big fans of Watrous... The great Ray Brown was on bass and Ross Tompkins on piano. After the break, composer Henry Mancini joined us at our table: Another Bill Watrous fan, he told me Watrous was the best Trombone soloist in the world in his opinion!Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6853772569125614798.post-11755174737018522562021-03-26T20:19:12.655-07:002021-03-26T20:19:12.655-07:00Does anyone remember if Gabor Szabo layed there in...Does anyone remember if Gabor Szabo layed there in the 1970,sAnonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16801882443675835199noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6853772569125614798.post-41113040543550491342021-02-23T20:59:46.563-08:002021-02-23T20:59:46.563-08:00I was a 20 year old jazz hound and had no idea who...I was a 20 year old jazz hound and had no idea who the bartender was . but once I brought a friend who had no idea who jazz artists were but immediately recognized Lee Ving as the bartender. He was one of my favorites, along with Blue Mithchell, Art Pepper, Zoot Sims, John Hammond on the piano, and the day with Stan Kenton. But the best night there for me was with Carmen McRae it was the last set, just me and a few others. It was a magical night.
