From Richard Palmer's 1988 monograph on Getz:

"He has refined saxophone technique and mastery to the ultimate; he has achieved a corpus of work which for both supreme consistency and wide-ranging beauty can hardly be equaled, let alone bettered; and he has created a style that is inimitable in its amalgam of lyricism, fierce power and imaginative command.

[Stan was still actively working at the time.] Palmer concluded:

"Whatever he does, it is more than likely that it will confirm Stan Getz, the man with the sound of an angel and the thrust of an aircraft engine, as one of the greatest jazzmen and among the finest artists alive."
