“I first heard Cedar on the J.J. Incorporated record on Columbia. I was a high school student in New York and a friend of mine who was a little older than me and also into jazz hipped me to this record; I'd been listening to J.J. some, but I didn't have that one, and that recording just completely galvanized me immediately, and you know Cedar's on that. I remember in particular, there's a Blues called "Fatback." The original version of it is like two or three choruses of just trio out front. And I was always just blown away with Cedar's playing, you know it's just how tasteful, swinging, and how perfect it sounded, ….”
